Katy Cooper
Katy Cooper has found a perfect way to help her stay active- her energetic four-year-old granddaughter.
As Aimee Lee's legal guardian, Katy (46) decided to make an effort to stay active in her everyday life to spend quality time with the youngster.
She said "I gave up work to look after Aimee Lee, and wanted to make sure I was fit and healthy so I could take the best care of her... I didn't want to be a couch potato!"
Setting a great example for her granddaughter Katy ensures they do various activities each day to keep active. Previously she drove Aimee Lee to nursery, but now they walk there each day.
"I hardly ever use the car now, just for big shops. You see people taking their car to the nursery, but it's such a waste of a journey. We could use the car but walking is a bit of easy exercise we can do every day and it's easy to fit in to the daily routine."
Katy and Aimee Lee go for walks around the local parks in the afternoon when the weather allows, sometimes with a bike or scooter in town.
"Taking our walks every day is such a nice way to spend time with the wee one. She talks non-stop just like her mum, telling me about what she did at nursery.
"Castle Park nursery are really good for keeping the kids active. They have two 'sporty days' a week, and every Wednesday we go along with the class to Eglington Park to walk nature trails and visit herb gardens."
Katy's positive encouragement towards activities has definitely proved successful with Aimee Lee. The two love going swimming together and Aimee Lee has already received a couple of certificates for football.
"Like every other child Aimee Lee loves her Wii! We all play that with her, although she's definitely better than me. When my husband plays it with her you can hear them shouting about who won what from outside!"
